Knock! Child Sodomy To Death, Youth In Ambon Sentenced To 18 Years In Imprisonment And Fines IDR 1 Billion

AMBON - The Ambon District Court judge sentenced Marcelo (23) to 18 years in prison, accused of sexual abuse and perpetrators of sodomy against a 7-year-old boy until he died in 2021.

"Declaring the defendant legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 82 paragraph (4) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection," said local District Court judge Wilson Shriver during a trial in Ambon, Maluku, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, July 20.

The defendant was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

The aggravating thing was that the defendant was sentenced to 18 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison because his actions had resulted in the victim's death.

As for the mitigating factors, the defendant was polite in court and had never been convicted.

The verdict of the panel of judges is still lighter than the demands of the Ambon Attorney General's Office, Beatrix Temar, who in the previous trial asked the defendant to be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In response to this decision, both the public prosecutor and the defendant through their legal advisors stated that they accepted it.

In the previous trial, the public prosecutor explained that the sodomy case was discovered when the victim complained of pain to her parents in December 2021.

It was later revealed that the defendant carried out his lewd act for the first time when the victim was alone and that this act was carried out continuously on other occasions.

As a result of the defendant's sodomy act, the victim was declared dead due to an infection in the anus.
