JAKARTA - The mass of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) demanded that the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan maintain the DKI Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) in 2022 of IDR 4.64 million.

This was voiced in a demonstration held in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, today.

In his oration, the Chairman of the DPD National Workers Union (SPN) of DKI Province, Mohammad Andre Nasrullah, asked Anies not to hesitate to file an appeal against the decision of the Jakarta Administrative Court which lowered the DKI UMP from Rp. 4.64 million to Rp. 4.53 million.

In fact, Andre claimed that his party would continue to support Anies' political steps, including running for President.

"No need to be afraid, Mr. Anies. Come and file a lawsuit (appeal). The DKI KSPI Regional Regulation (Regional Representative) continues to support Mr. Anies until Mr. Anies becomes president," said Andre at the location, Wednesday, July 20.

Andre said that the DKI KSPI had previously supported Anies since the former Minister of Education and Culture ran as a candidate for DKI Governor in the 2017 Pilkada.

Therefore, Andre demanded that Anies keep his promise to improve the welfare of workers when he set the DKI UMP to increase by 5.1 percent to Rp4.64 million per month.

"Since the beginning of deciding the UMP, KSPI has been here. The governor (once) came to see us. He promised to decide DKI Jakarta's wages with a sense of justice," Andre exclaimed.

"We have gone through many things, many obstacles. Why did we come today? We support him again to file a lawsuit," he continued.

Until now, demonstrations are still going on with orations being called. They formed a line facing the DKI City Hall by unfurling a banner containing their demands.

The line of workers used part of the road, but it was observed that the traffic around it was not too heavy due to this demonstration.

The workers plan to hold an audience with the DKI Provincial Government. The plan is that the Head of the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency, Andri Yansyah, will meet the workers to accommodate these aspirations.
