Ivana Trump's Death Was Caused By Blunt Object Collision

JAKARTA - Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US president Donald Trump, died from a "blunt blow" to her body in an accident, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) said Friday.

The statement did not reveal details of what happened, but US media said police were investigating whether the 73-year-old woman died from falling down the stairs at her Manhattan home.

A New York Police Department spokesman told AFP in an email that officers responded to a call from Ivana Trump's Upper East Side address and found Ivana "unconscious and unresponsive".

He was pronounced dead at the scene and the statement added there appeared to be no criminal element in the death.

"She was a great woman, beautiful and extraordinary, who lived an inspiring life," said former US president Donald Trump.

Ivana Trump, a model growing up under communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia, married Donald Trump, then a budding real estate developer, in 1977.

Their first son, Donald Jr., was born a year later. Ivanka was born in 1981 and Eric followed in 1984.

During the '80s, the Trump family was one of New York's leading families, their lavish lifestyle striking.

Donald Trump's property business grew along with their popularity, where Ivana Trump has a key role in Donald's businesses.

Their separation, reportedly due to Donald Trump's affair with actress Marla Maples, became a delicacy for New York tabloids.

Donald and Ivana divorced in the early 90s and in 1993 the man who would later become US president married Maples. Ivana Trump went on to enjoy a successful business career, creating business lines in fashion, jewelry and beauty products and writing several books.

Donald Trump and Maples' relationship only lasted until 1999. He then married his third wife, Melania Trump, in 2005.
