SUMSEL - The government of East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency has given vaccine injections to thousands of cattle to anticipate the spread of foot and mouth disease (PMK).

East OKU Regent Lanosin Hamzah said that his party received 1,900 doses of vaccine for livestock in the region.

"The type of vaccine we received was Aftopor, which was produced from France, with a total of 1,900 doses of vaccine," he said in Martapura, South Sumatra (Sumsel), quoted from Antara, Tuesday, June 12.

In carrying out the vaccination, his party dispatched a team of experts from the Department of Fisheries and Livestock of the OKU Timurs Regency as vaccinators.

This vaccination activity is carried out to prevent the spread of FMD which is currently infecting livestock in several areas in Indonesia.

The administration of the vaccine is focused on healthy livestock.

"The provision of the first stage of the vaccine is also aimed at productive female cows," he said.

He hoped that by administering the vaccine, livestock in the area would not be affected by the FMD outbreak.
