YOGYAKARTA - The realization of the completion of the Tugu Yogyakarta intersection arrangement has reached around 35 percent. The work is targeted for complete completion by 19 December.

"Currently, the stone is being replaced in the courtyard around the monument. Work was carried out in stages, starting from the south side first. After it is finished, we will move to the north side, ”said Head of Public Works for Housing and Settlement Areas (DPUPKP) of Yogyakarta City Hari Setya Wacana in Yogyakarta quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 3.

The stone used for structuring is andesite with a thickness of about 10 centimeters (cm). The stones will be arranged in a circular pattern so that the atmosphere in the Tugu court will look almost the same as the pattern in the Zero Kilometer Area of Yogyakarta.

Previously, the andesite stones in the Tugu Yogyakarta area were only arranged in rows without any special pattern. The stones used were thinner, so many of them broke due to being crossed by vehicles.

"Now, we replace it with a thicker stone to make it stronger. It does not break easily if a vehicle crosses it. Moreover, the number of vehicles passing in the area is quite dense, "he said.

In addition to the arrangement of the courtyard, there will also be changes to the boundary of the monument from a box shape to a circle equipped with a number of round bollards.

During the stone replacement work on the south side, traffic management was carried out in the Tugu area. Vehicles from the east cannot pass directly to the west, while vehicles from the west are not allowed to turn south.

In addition to replacing the stones in the Tugu courtyard, this work will also carry out "ducting" for the air cables which are considered to disturb the aesthetics of the area.

Yogyakarta City DPUPKP Head of Binamarga Division Umi Akhsanti said the ducting work for electric cables was ready to be done at any time.

"We have coordinated with PT PLN. They are ready. However, we still have to move the 'area traffic control system' (ATCS) box belonging to the DIY Transportation Agency which is on the north side of Tugu, "he said.

The Tugu intersection arrangement work, he continued, was also carried out simultaneously with the pedestrian arrangement on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, from Gondolayu Bridge to Tugu. The realization of pedestrian arrangement work also reached around 35 percent.

"The two jobs were carried out by two different partners. Because the work deadline is quite short, which must be completed within 100 days, "he said.

Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Pedestrian will be changed to be more comfortable for pedestrians to use, including people with disabilities.

"The concept is almost the same as the pedestrian arrangement work on Jalan Sudirman in the previous stage. It's just that we have adjusted this arrangement to the theme of the area in Tugu, namely the philosophical axis area, "he said.

Umi said, all pedestrian arrangement work on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and the Simpang Tugu area must be completed in December so that the new atmosphere can be enjoyed by tourists at the end of the year.

The budget for the revitalization of the Tugu intersection is allocated IDR 9.5 billion and the pedestrian arrangement for Jalan Jenderal Sudirman is allocated IDR 13.9 billion, all of which come from the 2020 privileges fund.
