Residents Of Kaitetu Residents In Central Maluku Flood

AMBON - Residents of the Coconut Garden complex, Kaitetu State, Central Maluku Regency (Malteng) were flooded due to overflowing rivers.

The flood occurred after the island of Ambon was hit by heavy rains since early morning which caused the Wailoy river in the Kaitetu State area to overflow.

"There are about 11 to 12 houses that have been flooded," said one resident, Muhammad Risal in Ambon, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 5.

According to him, the water began to soak residents' houses at 05.00 WIT until 11.00 WIT. The flood began to recede at 12.00 WIT.

"We've been busy lifting things since 5 this morning," he said.

Meanwhile, Wiwi, one of the residents whose house was affected by the flood, admitted that she did not want to return to her house for a while even though the water had receded, because she was worried that heavy rain would return.

"For the time being, we are evacuating to the family's house. We don't want to take any risks because the rain is still pouring," said Wiwi.

Meanwhile, the Ambon City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded eight flood points and five landslide points due to extreme weather in the form of high rainfall since Monday (4/7).

Based on temporary data, there are eight flood points, including the area of RT 006 RW 001 Nania Village, Teluk Ambon District, RT 12 Lata Village, RT 027/RW 003 Waiheru Village, Kate-Kate Hunuth, RT 002/003 Poka Village, Hative Small, Passo Country.

Meanwhile, landslides caused by heavy rains in Batu Meja Village, RT 003/RW 0073, three points in Amantelu Village and Negeri Passo, and two fallen trees covered the road in front of the Unpatti campus and in the Air Besar Passo bridge area.
