JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that the DKI Provincial Government invited the South Tangerang City Government and the Bekasi City Government to participate in implementing motor vehicle emission tests.

Asep said that the invitation for the emission test would later be stated in one of the points of cooperation in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tangsel and Bekasi.

"We will soon have an MoU with the City of Bekasi and South Tangerang specifically for this climate issue. We are collaborating and providing infrastructure for this climate, one of which is we are collaborating on emission tests," Asep said when met in the Ancol area, North Jakarta, Tuesday, July 5th.

Asep targets the MoU to be signed at the end of July. Thus, the two buffer cities of Jakarta will also be able to provide emission test workshops and carry out vehicle emission test trials in the near future.

Furthermore, Asep said that the expansion of the emission test in the buffer zone is inseparable from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's plan with the Polda Metro Jaya to implement a policy of prohibiting STNK renewal for vehicles that have not passed the emission test.

In its implementation, cities such as Bekasi and South Tangerang need to be involved. Bearing in mind, this buffer zone is also included in the jurisdiction of the Polda Metro Jaya.

"We will also try the application in cities around Jakarta. It is hoped that at least in these two cities, we can start working together, starting to equalize, unify preparations. So, we can carry out the emission test in an integrated manner," said Asep.

"So, later there will be a unified data between us and cities around Jakarta regarding the implementation because this emission test cannot be separated from vehicle taxes. DKI will work together to ask for the vehicle number, so that later for the STNK extension, the emission test data will be connected with data for each vehicle number," he continued.

After the cooperation in providing climate-related facilities with South Tangerang and Bekasi is implemented, Asep hopes that this kind of cooperation can also be established in all regions in Greater Jakarta to Cianjur.
