BOGOR - Bogor City Government, West Java welcomes the proposed Minister of Agriculture Regulation (Permentan) regarding the replacement fund for dead cows infected with mouth and nail disease (FMD) of a maximum of Rp. 10 million per head for their owners.

"We welcome it if the central government has such a policy, because after all these breeders are waiting, waiting for the moment of sale and usually the best moment is the Eid al-Adha," said Bogor Mayor Daily Executive (Plh) Dedie A. Rachim when inspecting farm animals at the Bubulak Slaughterhouse (RPH) reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 4.

According to Dedie, the government will make efforts so that the impact of the FMD outbreak on all parties, including breeders, traders and buyers, can be overcome with a number of handling steps, including the draft Ministry of Agriculture regarding the replacement fund for dead cows.

However, the Bogor Walkot hopes that all parties involved in buying and selling cows, goats and sheep during this FMD outbreak, especially ahead of Eid al-Aha 1443 Hijriah, will also be more careful in maintaining and preventing their livestock from contracting the disease.

"And of course synergy is needed between traders, breeders, buyers and also agencies that are directly related to animal health in the regions," he said.

Dedie believes the central government has prepared detailed rules for the replacement of dead cows infected with FMD to be forwarded to local governments.

"We just heard from the media, so there are no technical instructions yet and we'll see for sure the central government has thought about it in more detail," said Dedie.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Chair of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee (KPCPEN) Airlangga Hartarto, at the Jakarta Presidential Palace complex, Monday (4/7) 2022 conveyed that the technical replacement of cattle affected by FMD would be regulated by the Minister of Agriculture Regulation ( Ministry of Agriculture).

"Technically prepared by the Minister of Agriculture. So the replacement is a maximum of Rp. 10 million," he said.

Airlangga said that not all culled cows will be replaced. If there are cows that have to be slaughtered but the meat can still be sold according to a certain protocol, then the replacement is not given or only part of it is given.

"This will be regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture. We ask that the Ministerial Regulation be issued as soon as possible," he said.

Currently the government continues to encourage vaccination of livestock.

The government approved the procurement of 29 million doses of oral and nail disease vaccine for livestock this year using funds from the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN).
