Ile Lewotolok Eruption In Lembata NTT, Ash Height Reaches 1,300 Meters

LEMBATA - The Mount Ile Lewotolok Monitoring Post in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province reported that there had been an eruption of the mountain with a height of ash reaching approximately 1,300 meters above the mountain peak.

"The eruption occurred on Friday evening at 16.29 WITA," said Head of the Mount Ile Monitoring Post Lewotolok Stanis Arakian in a statement received in Kupang, Antara, Friday, July 1 evening.

He explained that the eruption resulted in the observed white to gray ash column with thick intensity leaning towards the west.

The eruption which was accompanied by the eruption caused a strong roar so that based on reports the residents around the mountain felt it too.

He hopes that the surrounding community will always be aware of the eruptions that continue to occur, because the material at the top of the mountain is getting more and more worrying.

The monitoring post then issued a recommendation because based on the results of a thorough analysis and evaluation, on June 14, 2022, the activity level of Ile Lewotolok Volcano was still at Level III (Standby) with new recommendations tailored to the latest potential hazards.

In the Level III (Siaga) activity level, people around Mount Ile Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists are recommended not to carry out activities within a 3 km radius of the peak/crater, 3.5 km radius for the Southeast sector, 4 km radius for the East sector and Northeast.

"The people of Lamawolo Village, Lamatokan Village, and Jontona Village should always be aware of the potential threat of incandescent lava and hot clouds from the eastern part of the peak / crater of Mount Ile Lewotolok," said Stanis Arakian.
