KM Karmila Patah Steering, 13 Passengers Evacuated 18 Joint Search And Rescue Officers To Pulau Kambing

JAKARTA - The SAR team evacuated 13 passengers of KM Karmila, a ship that had an accident in the waters of Kambing Island, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

Head of the Maumere Search and Rescue Office, Lalu Wahyu Efendi, said the SAR team evacuated 13 passengers of KM Karmila using the RIB ship, West Manggarai SAR Post and Sea Rider, Labuan Bajo Naval Base (Lanal) on Thursday 30 June night.

Based on the report received by the Search and Rescue Office, the evacuation effort involved a number of SAR members and joint forces.

Meanwhile, based on reports between the officers involved, 4 members of the West Manggarai SAR Post, 10 Lanal Labuan Bajo, 2 Labuan Bajo Water Police, and 2 West Manggarai Sea Port Security Implementation Units.

Then Wahyu Efendi explained that the West Manggarai SAR Post on Thursday, June 30 at around 20.00 WITA received information that the KM Karmila steering wheel had broken in the waters about 13.9 nautical miles from the West Manggarai SAR Post.

KM Karmila carrying goods and 16 people consisting of 13 passengers and three crew members reportedly departed from Labuan Bajo Harbor on Thursday 30 June at 14.30 WITA, and arrived on Rinca Island at 16.00 WITA.

After unloading goods on Rinca Island, KM Karmila left for Labuan Bajo Harbor at 18.00 WITA, but on the way the ship was hit by high waves and strong winds so that the rudder broke.
