JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the Jakarta Chinatown Gate in the Pancoran area, Glodok, West Jakarta. During the inauguration, Anies emphasized that the gate was a symbol of unity for the citizens of Jakarta.

"We hope this sends a message to all of us that Jakarta is home to all. In this place we not only mark diversity. Diversity is a gift from God. But unity is our endeavor," said Anies in Glodok, Thursday, June 30.

Anies said the design concept of the Jakarta Chinatown Gate has its own uniqueness compared to the Chinatown Gate in other parts of the world.

This building has an architecture of stone elements (gray), brown tiles, and elements of green color mixed with Betawi culture, with wooden brown writing.

"We can see its uniqueness, here you can see that there are no red or yellow elements like the Chinatown gates in general. That is the main difference between the Jakarta Chinatown Gate and the gates in general. Here you can see dragon carvings and the dominant cloud element on the gate. , symbolizing prosperity and protection from the Almighty Creator," said Anies.

Initially, this gate had stood since the 18th century. During the Japanese colonial period, the original gate building was torn down. Then, in 2018, the initiation of rebuilding emerged. Until finally the Jakarta Chinatown Gate was inaugurated today.

Anies said that the establishment of the Jakarta Chinatown Gate in the Chinatown area is an event that will be recorded in the history of Jakarta. Anies hopes that this gate will invite more tourists.

"Hopefully, through this development, it will not only be an added value to attract more tourists, but also as a reminder to take care of the traditional values that have been passed down to us," he concluded.
