Muhammadiyah Will Study The Development Of Jokowi's Ukraine-Russia Peace Mission

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Haedar Nasir said his party through the Institute for Foreign Relations and Cooperation would review the progress of President Joko Widodo's steps in seeking peace between Ukraine and Russia.

"Muhammadiyah through the Institute for Foreign Relations and Cooperation will review developments after President Jokowi's visit and the steps taken by President Jokowi to seek a peaceful path (between Ukraine and Russia)," said Haedar as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 30.

After the study, he continued, Muhammadiyah could take on a role through non-governmental channels to participate in encouraging the two countries to end the war.

Basically, according to Haedar, the war between Russia and Ukraine is a political tragedy that should not happen.

In this modern era that upholds sovereignty between countries and a new civilized world order, according to him, war is a paradox as well as destruction of the building of world civilization that should be peaceful.

In fact, Haedar continued, the impact of the war not only caused physical destruction, but could also destroy human life and safety and affect the world's economic conditions.

He views world peace as something that is expensive because it involves the survival of all mankind.

"Disputes and conflicts between countries can actually be resolved in a dignified manner by involving the role of the United Nations (UN)," said Haedar.

However, in reality the armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia cannot be prevented. Meanwhile, the United Nations has not taken decisive and significant steps.

Therefore, Haedar assessed that President Jokowi's peace efforts by visiting the two leaders of the two countries are important things that also need the support of all parties.

"War must be a thing of the past or not the era because the future of the world demands a paradigm of peace and living together on a shared planet Earth," he said.
