JAKARTA - National business figure Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, has a lot of potential for "sport tourism" or sports tourism to be developed to increase tourist visits to the area.

According to him, Belitung is one of the destinations that has the potential for sports tourism such as organizing triathlons, marathons, swimming, long-distance bicycles and rock climbing because there are quite a lot of rocks.

"So it is very possible to be used as sports tourism, the road conditions in Belitung are good and the people are friendly and greet, so this is a very extraordinary asset," he said.

For this reason, efforts that can be made by local governments are collaborating with various parties in developing sports tourism, including increasing tourism marketing.

"I have also brought several sports tourism activists to Belitung. Hopefully they can initiate several activities in 2021 besides the triathlon activities that I have participated in," Sandi said.

Previously, Sandiaga Uno visited the fishing village of Tanjung Binga Village, Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, and interacted with fishermen in the village.

"I want to know how the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the fisheries sector and also the condition of fishermen," said Sandiaga Uno.

During the visit, Sandiaga Uno spoke with a number of fishermen in Tanjung Binga Village, which is the largest center for salted fish in Indonesia.

"Indeed, the impact of the C0VID-19 pandemic, fish sales have decreased, so this condition must be restored immediately. I do have some bright ideas so that fishermen are still empowered, especially the younger generation, so that they do not abandon the marine and fisheries business," said Sandiaga Uno.

Sandiaga added that the potential for the marine and fisheries sector in Tanjung Binga Village is very large, so the economic recovery of the fishing community should be done as quickly as possible.

"We must quickly realize all forms of collaboration, both government assistance and collaboration with the business world," he said.

In addition, Sandiaga said, Tanjung Binga Village also needs investors to enter and develop the potential of the area so that the marine and fishery business products produced can penetrate the global market.

Development plans that can be carried out in the future, he said, must be in accordance with the needs of the fishing community, such as the construction of cold storage or fish refrigerators and Fish Processing Units (UPI).

"The potential is huge. I saw earlier that the products have also been marketed in Jakarta and micro businesses like this if they are properly fostered will open the widest possible job opportunities," said Sandiaga.
