GARUT - Joint officers conducted a search for a teenage student who was reported missing while camping in the Cijeruk Beach area, Cibalong District, Garut Regency, West Java, today.

The Head of Cibalong Police, AKP Saep Balya, said that the student who was reported missing was Abdul Fatah (18), a SMK student in Garut who was camping with his friend on Saturday, June 26. Fatah was declared missing yesterday.

"Yes, there are (missing) victims who are currently still in the process of being searched," said the police chief as quoted by Antara, Monday, June 27.

Since the victim was reported missing, a number of joint officers immediately conducted a search in the Cijeruk Beach area, but found no sign of the victim's whereabouts.

According to the information gathered by the police, the victim before his disappearance had attended a report card distribution activity at Sayang Heulang Beach, Pameungpeuk District, then went camping to Cijeruk Beach with a friend named Ikja.

Friends of the victims camping, he said, had been found safe and could not be spoken to, while Abdul Fatah's whereabouts were unknown.

"Currently we are still conducting a search, hopefully they can be found soon," he said.

Cibalong Sub-district Head Fahmi Fauzi added that initially Abdul Fatah camped with his friend named Ikja in the Cijeruk Beach area. On Sunday morning local residents found Ikja confused or having difficulty communicating.

Fahmi conveyed that his staff had not been able to find out more fully about the initial disappearance of the victim, as well as the friend of the victim Ikja could not provide information regarding the condition of his friend while camping on the beach.

"Ikja has now been brought home by his family," he said.
