Government Encourages Development Of Data Centers Using Local Components

JAKARTA - The government encourages the construction of data centers using local components in order to create jobs in the country.

"The government really emphasizes putting an Indonesian component. At least with this Indonesian component it will create more jobs," said Minister of Communications and Information Johnny G. Plate as quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 26.

In line with the increasing use of domestic products and products made by micro enterprises, small businesses and cooperatives, President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Instruction of the Republic of Indonesia Number 2 of 2022.

The government annually allocates Rp. 1,400 trillion for domestic sector expenditure, with details of Rp. 1,000 trillion for expenditure by the government and Rp. 400 trillion by State-Owned Enterprises.

According to Minister Johnny, the domestic budget allocation will be large if it is coupled with activities supported by the private sector.

During the visit, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny, also mentioned the government's policy in supporting the use of 5G. Kominfo through the Directorate General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology is currently farming and refarming the frequency spectrum to support the use of more advanced technology.

Currently, the technological backbone network used in Indonesia is 4G, at the same time 5G networks are also being introduced.

5G technology, according to Johnny, can be used in smart cities, smart villages, smart airports and smart harbors with the use of the Internet of Things.

Indonesia also needs collaboration with the private sector to develop smart sensors to maintain employee safety.

In other sectors, Minister Johnny encouraged private companies to develop efficiency by utilizing technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality and metaverse.
