MEDAN - The activity of Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, has increased. The volcano also released hot clouds as far as 2,000 meters or 2 km to the east and southeast.

Head of the Sinabung Volcano Monitoring Post Armen Putra said that the eruption of Mount Sinabung that morning spewed clouds with a column height of 1,500 meters.

"There was an APG (hot cloud avalanche) on October 29, 2020 at around 07.52 WIB with a sliding distance of 2,000 meters to the east-southeast and a high ash column of 1,500 meters," said Armen in his statement.

Armen appealed to residents not to enter the red zone of Mount Sinabung. This is because the activity of Mount Sinabung is still very high and at any time an eruption can occur.

The community is asked to stay away from the red zone with a radius of 5 km to the east and southeast, and 4 km to the north east of the summit of Mount Sinabung.

"Currently, Mount Sinabung is still on alert status, there is still the potential for eruptions and hot clouds," he said.

In addition, during this long holiday, the community was asked not to visit a number of tourist attractions in the red zone due to the eruption of Mount Sinabung.

"For tourist destinations that are prohibited from entering is Lau Kawar. Because the location is at the foot of Mount Sinabung, the area is in a dangerous zone, ”he said.
