143 Cases Of Omicron Subvariant BA4-BA5 Have Been Detected In Indonesia, Ministry Of Health Asks Comorbid And Elderly To Be Alert

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Mohammad Syahril, said that currently there were 143 cases of COVID-19 of the BA4 and BA5 subvariant Omicron variants in Indonesia that were detected through the whole genome sequencing method.

"Currently, there are 143 BA4 and BA5 cases," said Syahril in the talk show 'Optimizing 3T: New Wave Dam Efforts', which was attended in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, June 23.

Therefore, his party asks the public to be aware of the spread of this new subvariant of COVID-19 amid the re-increasing number of COVID-19 cases.

"Regarding the current increase in cases, all of us must be vigilant because there are new subvariants, BA4 and BA5," he said.

His party said that until now the number of patients who had to be hospitalized and cases of death from COVID-19 patients were still low because most patients did not experience severe symptoms.

However, Syahril asked high-risk communities to be vigilant about the transmission of COVID-19.

"We will remain vigilant, especially for high risk, elderly, elderly, then comorbid, that is our main concern," he said.

His party said that they were continuing to take measures to control the spread of COVID-19 by tracing and testing so that people who were infected with COVID-19 could immediately undergo quarantine or be treated in hospital.

"With these efforts, we can later reduce the number of existing cases as well as how we control the hospitalization rate and the death rate from these BA4 and BA5 subvariant Omicron cases," he said.
