SLEMAN - The Sleman Regency Government will receive assistance as much as 3,300 doses of oral and nail disease vaccine (PMK) from the central government.

Head of the Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Service (DP3) of Sleman Regency, Suparmono, said that the FMD-fighting vaccine is scheduled to arrive in Sleman this afternoon.

"Based on the information received, as of Thursday (June 23) this afternoon, the vaccine may have arrived at the DIY Regional Government. In this first stage, Sleman Regency received an allocation of 3,300 doses of PMK vaccine," he said in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region, quoted from Between, Thursday 23 June.

According to him, for the first stage of injection of PMK vaccine in Sleman, the priority is for dairy cattle. The initial injection is planned to be carried out in Glagaharjo Village, Kapanewon Cangkringan.

"The plan is Saturday (June 25) morning, the first PMK vaccine injection will be held in Glagaharjo. Because on the slopes of Merapi, the population of dairy cattle is quite high," he said.

He said, dairy cows are a priority for injecting PMK vaccines, because if they are exposed to a virus attack, cow's milk production will experience a significant decline.

"Of the total 2,804 dairy cattle population in Sleman, 252 cows were affected by FMD and its impact on milk production immediately decreased from 7,664.75 liters to 6,363.50 liters per day," he added.

Acting Head of Livestock and Animal Health Division of Sleman Regency DP3 Nawangwulan added that the injection of PMK vaccine in livestock is almost similar to COVID-19 vaccination. One animal will receive three vaccine injections.

"The first vaccine, the second vaccine and then the booster vaccine," he added.

Currently, his party has also begun to prepare vaccinators taken from medical and paramedical officers in each puskeswan and will be assisted by extension workers and inseminators.

"Before the injection, there will be training from the Veterinary Center (BBVet)," he said.

According to him, the PMK vaccination for livestock involves many officers, not just injecting them. However, it requires input data which includes owner data and livestock identity such as age and species.

"One livestock will require at least three officers, namely medical officers, paramedics and data input officers," he said.
