MAKASSAR - Waste handling and management has become one of the classic problems in Makassar City that has not been resolved.

In addition to efforts to develop landfills and build a waste processing industry, other efforts are needed to solve the problem of waste so that it does not accumulate.

Candidates for mayor and deputy mayor of Makassar, Syamsu Rizal-Fadli Ananda (Dilan), have thought of the best solution to solve the problem of solid waste in the provincial capital. In addition to developing a TPA with a good processing system, waste management in the early stages must be a concern.

Dilan launched the Business Label Based Waste (Sambalu) program as an effort to create a productive cycle for waste. If managed properly, waste can be a source of income, for example, it is recycled into products or processed into fertilizer and weekdays.

"It takes innovation in handling and processing waste. There is not enough waste to exchange rice, how come there are many others that can be applied. The point is, together we change the paradigm of waste from being an enemy to a source of livelihood by developing productive businesses from waste," said Deng Ical. familiarly, Tuesday, October 27.

The Muhammadiyah cadre explained that there are various options related to creating a productive cycle from waste. First, converting waste into electricity and gas energy. This method will certainly be very productive, but it does require large budget support to build PLTSa.

Second, turn waste into fertilizer and feed. He will encourage this step at the household level so that waste handling will be carried out earlier. Third, turn waste into a creative economy. You do this by recycling waste into various products that can be sold.

The fourth alias is the last, presenting a center for field study of waste management. Through this study center, efforts to handle and manage waste can be done even better in the future.

"Yes, in essence, we have to create a productive cycle in waste management," he continued.

"One of the things that pay attention and produce is turning waste into a creative economy. We will optimize more productive efforts from waste, we encourage the community, especially the scavenger groups to be able to recycle waste into various produce products," continued Deng Ical.

The chairman of PMI Makassar explained that in the Sambalu program, there are many more efforts to handle and manage waste based on community involvement. Among them are strengthening and developing scavenger groups at the village level and training in independent waste management at the household level (RT / RW).

Furthermore, Dilan has also prepared incentives for community-based and RT / RW recycling programs, socialization of the use of organic materials for both household and industrial use, incentive programs for the packaging industry and producers using organic or recyclable materials.

"We will also free waste retribution for certain communities, those who are less fortunate and who are affected by COVID-19," he said
