Hajj Congregation Dies Due To Dehydration, DPR Reminds Ministry Of Education To Face Hot Weather In Saudi Arabia

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ace Hasan Syadzily reminded the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) to carry out socialization and education to Hajj pilgrims to always be alert to the extreme hot weather in Saudi Arabia. Following, there was a victim of a pilgrim who died from dehydration.

"We received information that the Hajj season in 2022 will have quite hot air temperatures in Saudi Arabia, therefore the Ministry of Religion is expected to provide socialization and education to prospective pilgrims to be vigilant in dealing with this hot weather," said Ace to reporters, Friday, June 17th.

The Golkar politician explained that currently conditions in Saudi Arabia are experiencing summer with an average temperature of 40-44 degrees Celsius. In fact, Ace said, the temperature could be higher than expected.

Therefore, according to Ace, it is important for the Ministry of Religion to continue to carry out socialization and education related to extreme weather in Saudi Arabia in order to maintain the safety of pilgrims.

"The House of Representatives Commission VIII also asked the Ministry of Religion and the Ministry of Health to provide knowledge to prospective hajj pilgrims to prepare umbrellas while outside the hotel," said Ace.

The West Java legislator also asked the pilgrims to always maintain their health and pay attention to the need for drinking water so that dehydration does not occur during the hajj season.

"I suggest that the pilgrims pay attention to the intake of nutritious food during the pilgrimage in the summer in Saudi Arabia," concluded Ace.

Previously, an Indonesian pilgrim named Hasbullah bin Burhan (58 years old) from Cianjur, West Java at the Jakarta-Bekasi (JKS) embarkation, reportedly died from dehydration. A death certificate or Certificate of Death (COD) has also been issued.

"Today, five people have died, the last one is dehydration," said Head of KKHI Madinah, Enny Nuryanti in Madinah, Thursday, June 16.

Enny explained that before he died, the congregation had received the help of a group of doctors and was then taken to the Saudi Arabian Hospital according to the procedure. The condition of the pilgrims who died was made worse because they had a history of diabetes and hypertension.

"30 minutes later he died. The diagnosis was dehydration," he said.
