JAKARTA - The head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri reminded 48 acting regional heads about corruption-prone points in the management and implementation of programs in the regions.

This was stated by Firli in a coordination meeting (rakor) held by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) in Jakarta, Thursday, June 16, quoted from Antara. The coordination meeting aims to provide direction and briefing to the newly appointed acting regional heads.

"For this reason, the 48 new acting regional heads consisting of five acting governors and 43 acting regents/mayors must avoid the occurrence of 'fraud' while on duty. Acting regional heads must also have an important role in carrying out their duties with the aim of maintaining the stability of state security and law. , said Firli.

Corruption-prone points that must be considered include the procurement of goods and services, regional cash management, grants and social assistance (bansos), asset management to the placement of local government capital in Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) or third parties.

In addition, another vulnerable point is corruption in the regional revenue sector, starting from regional taxes and levies as well as regional revenues from the center.

Then, corruption in the licensing sector starts from providing recommendations to issuing permits and conflicts of interest as well as abuse of authority in the process of auctioning positions, rotations, transfers, and promotions of state civil servants (ASN) within the government.

"Therefore, the KPK hopes that the acting regional heads use their positions and authorities to make policies that favor the interests of the people and prioritize the principles of 'good governance' in leading their regions," said Firli.

The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian also conveyed that through the coordination meeting, the acting regional heads were reminded to work with good intentions and to stay away from deviations or "moral hazard" and to increase efforts to prevent corruption through improving governance.

"Law enforcers such as the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) understand very well the vulnerable areas that often become a problem. So, regional heads are expected not to fall into a vortex," Tito told 48 officials to the regions.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD, who was also present, also reminded the elected regional heads to avoid corrupt behavior and carry out their mandate as well as possible.

According to Mahfud, stable regional conditions will also determine the running of the government.

"We need a strong synergy between the central government and regional governments. This synergy is very important because without synergy, it is impossible to implement policies between the center and the regions," said Mahfud.
