MUKOMUKO - The Government of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province, has socialized a legal aid program for the poor to the community in the local area and prepared a budget of IDR 40 million for assistance.

"We have socialized the legal aid program for the poor to the community and we have also asked the District Court for assistance to provide data on residents involved in legal cases," said Head of the Legal Secretariat of the Mukomuko Regency Government M Arpi, in Mukomuko, Antara, Thursday, June 16. .

The local government in addition to socializing this program. This includes writing to the District Court that deals directly with criminal, civil and state administrative cases.

In the letter, the Regency Government requested that the local District Court provide data on local residents belonging to the economically poor who were entangled in criminal, civil and state administrative cases who met the requirements to obtain free legal aid from the local government.

The local government provides legal assistance to the poor if the conditions are complete, such as a poverty certificate from the village and these residents are not involved in cases of corruption and immorality.

In addition, the local government uses the services of lawyers to assist poor people who apply for legal protection and these lawyers assist residents from the investigation stage until the files are transferred to the District Court.

The local government for two consecutive years has prepared a budget of IDR 40 million to provide legal assistance for poor people who apply for legal protection.

However, the Rp40 million budget to provide legal aid for the poor from 2020 and 2021 was not absorbed because there were no poor people in this area who applied for legal protection.

"In 2021 we will return free legal aid funds for poor people who are caught in criminal cases because there are no poor people who apply for legal protection to the regional government," he said.
