Megawati Reminds Regional Heads From PDIP Not To Be Excited About The 2024 Elections

JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri has given directions to all regional heads of party cadres bearing the bull symbol, not to rush to talk about candidacy until the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

The direction was conveyed by the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto in front of cadres who were present at the Coordination Meeting of PDIP Regional Heads/Deputy Heads throughout Indonesia at the PDIP DPP Party School, Lenteng Agung, Jakarta on Thursday, June 16.

"So outside of the electoral frenzy, presidential and vice presidential candidates, legislative elections, presidential elections. We have such a large PR (homework) that the party must concentrate," said Hasto.

"That's why the General Chairperson gave directions not to take the contest too early," he continued.

Megawati, said Hasto, asked her cadres to remember that the 2024 general election had already been set. Cadres are asked not to rush, for example, getting excited about the 2024 election even though it's not the time yet.

"We are excited about matters that are ahead of their time, so this must be included in the discourse on how every political party has an agenda to prepare a vision and mission for all parties in the 2024 election," he stressed.

Instead of rushing to discuss the 2024 election, Hasto said that Megawati's directive to PDIP cadres was to help the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) overcome various problems such as food scarcity.

"This is what should be contested, what is the difference between PDI-P and PKS, what is the difference between PDI-P and Democrats. That should be seen as part of a public discourse that educates the nation's life," said Hasto.

"After all, the legislative and presidential elections have stages, there are already mechanisms. This is what we have to understand about this problem, food scarcity, and this has not yet been the impact, predicted by the United Nations when contacting Mr. President Jokowi," he continued.

In this coordination meeting, a number of regional heads from PDIP were present, including Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution.

The activity began with briefing to the regional head in a closed manner. As for the event, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri attended online.

Meanwhile, the PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and a number of DPP Chairmen were present at the location, namely Komarudin Watubun, Eriko Sotarduga, Ribka Tjiptaning, Nusyirwan Soedjono, Sri Rahayu, and Rokhmin Dahuri.

Not only that, Bambang Wuryanto, Wuryanti Sukamdani, Olly Dondokambey, Hamka Haq, and Djarot Saiful Hidayat were also present. PDIP Deputy General Treasurer Rudiyanto Tjen was also in the front row. The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) who had just been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo, Wempi Wetipo was also present.
