Tens Of Thousands Of Workers Hold Demonstrations, Bring These 5 Demands To The DPR

JAKARTA - Tens of thousands of workers will take action simultaneously in various regions in Indonesia today, Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Ten thousand workers will be concentrated in the House of Representatives (DPR) Building.

The President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, said the action would be carried out in industrial cities such as Bandung, Makassar, Banjarmasin, Banda Aceh, Medan, Batam, Semarang, Surabaya, Ternate, Ambon, and several other industrial cities.

"In Jakarta, the action on June 15 will be centered in the DPRI RI involving nearly 10 thousand workers," Said said in his statement, Wednesday, June 15.

Said conveyed that this labor action would bring five demands to the DPR. First, rejecting the revision of the PPP Law. Second, rejecting the omnibus law of the Job Creation Law, thirdly rejecting the 75-day campaign period, but it must be 9 months of a law. Fourth, ratify the PPRT Bill, fifth, rejecting agricultural liberalization through the WTO. Said Iqbal continued, there are several reasons why the Labor Party rejected the revision of the PPP Law. First, the discussion is considered to be running fast and does not see broad public participation. "We received information that the revision of the PPP Law was only discussed for 10 days in Baleg. Even though the PPP Law is the mother of the law, where the birth of all laws must refer formally to the PPP Law," said Said Iqbal.

"Imagine, such an important law was only made in 10 days," he continued.

The second reason is that the PPP Law is legally flawed. This revision, said Said, is only a legal trick, not a legal requirement. "Just to justify omnibus law as a method of forming laws," he said.

Third, Iqbal suspects that the revision of the PPP Law will no longer involve broad public participation. According to him, public participation is simply defined as a discussion on campus. "This is very dangerous, because it does not give space to the community," said Iqbal.

"Therefore, the steps that will be taken by the workers are, in the near future after the PPP Law number is issued, the Labor Party will submit a judicial review, both formal and material, to the Constitutional Court," he added.

The Labor Party will also conduct a campaign by explaining which political parties are playing, and that's all.

"They are sweet on the face of the people's expectations, but actually make laws that are detrimental," said Iqbal.

Furthermore, taking action on June 15, 2022 simultaneously in various regions in Indonesia.

"Meanwhile, regarding the second issue, from the beginning the Labor Party rejected the Job Creation Act and firmly rejected the omnibus law on the Job Creation Law being re-discussed," he said.

The reason, said Said, was that the Job Creation Law had also been formally recorded. Second, workers have not received material from the revision of the Job Creation Law, especially the labor cluster. Third, labor clusters are detrimental to workers. Such as outsourcing for life, low wages, easy layoffs, to low severance pay.

"Just like the rejection of the PPP Law, in rejecting the Job Creation Act, we will also conduct a judicial review, both formal and material," said Said Iqbal.
