Outreach To Schools, NTT Bawaslu: 17-Year-Old Voters Don't Know Their Rights In Elections

NTT - The General Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province has begun to intensify socialization in various educational institutions and universities to increase the participation of novice voters in granting voting rights in the 2024 General Election.

"Bawaslu in NTT has now started to carry out socialization in schools and universities to increase the number of voters from novice voters in the 2024 election," said the Coordinator of the Prevention and Inter-Institutional Relations Division of the NTT Bawaslu Province, Jemris Fointuna in Kupang, Monday, June 13.

Jemris Fointuna said that novice voters were one of the focuses of Bawaslu's attention in providing socialization about their rights in participating in elections so that there would be more participation of novice voters in elections.

According to him, socialization to the beginner voter group related to the implementation of the election is very important so that the voters know their rights and what their goals are in voting in the election.

"Novice voters who are 17 years old certainly don't know exactly what their rights are in elections, so Bawaslu throughout NTT has started to carry out direct socialization to schools and universities," he said.

He explained that the Bawaslu had also begun to disseminate information to novice voters, especially for retired former TNI/Polri members.

With the intensification of socialization, he hopes that the number of novice voters in NTT Province will increase in the upcoming simultaneous elections.
