Not Accepting Jokowi's 3rd Period Issue Reappears, Masinton Urges Students To Take To The Streets: We Must Fight!

JAKARTA - PDI-P politician Masinton Pasaribu firmly rejects the issue of President Joko Widodo being able to serve three terms which are now rolling again.

This issue was raised by the General Chairperson of Pro Jokowi (Projo) Volunteers, Budi Arie Setiadi.

Masinton also urged young people, especially students, to take to the streets to hold demonstrations regarding the rejection of Jokowi's three-term discourse.

"We have to fight the idea of three periods. Students, young people, go out into the streets, leave books, leave bags, take to the streets. Young people in the alleys, leave for a moment, take to the streets," said Masinton in a discussion in Jakarta, Sunday, June 12.

This member of Commission XI of the DPR RI emphasized that the president's term of office for more than two terms violates the amendments to the 1945 Constitution.

If Jokowi serves for three terms, Masinton continued, it would undermine the mandate of reform as a consensus to avoid arbitrary power of state leaders.

"When the three-period (discussion) comes, it is an idea that straddles democracy. If it comes from power, then this power is not carrying out the mandate and mandate of reform," he stressed.

Previously, the General Chair of Projo Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that there was still the possibility for President Jokowi to continue in office for up to three terms.

"If the metaphor is a race, 2024 has many sharp corners, because there are still many possibilities. In that race we cannot predict who will win on the last lap. Well, this is 2024, the uncertainty, the unpredictable is very high. "Friends of Projo, we have to be observant, maybe 3 terms, maybe an extension of the term of office," said Budi Arie during the Total Politics discussion on Wednesday, June 8.

Then, Budi also explained why he again echoed Jokowi's proposal to serve for 3 terms. Budi claims this is based on the survey results.

"There are still aspirations and desires in the community. Indeed, the survey 67 percent rejected 3 terms, but there are still 33 percent, meaning that 1 third of Indonesians still want Pak Jokowi for 3 terms, but constitutionally it's not possible," said Budi at the press conference.
