Palembang LRT Connects To BRT And Opelet

PALEMBANG - The light rail transit (Light Rail Transit) of Palembang, South Sumatra, has begun to connect with other modes of transportation, namely Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Opelet, so that it will be easier for the public to use it.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at the event "Launching the Palembang LRT connected to BRT and Opelet", said this effort was to support the movement back to public transportation.

"Today is marked by the use of Light Rail Transit (LRT) transportation from the Airport Station to Pasar Cinde LRT Station, then continued using Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Opelet," said Budi Karya, quoted by Antara, Saturday, June 11.

This activity was also attended by the Mayor of Palembang Harnojoyo, Member of Parliament Eddy Santana Putra, singer Armada Rizal, artist from Palembang Helmi Yahya and Selebgram Palembang Aquina.

He said that the movement back to public transportation was continuously being pursued and socialized so that residents' habits in using private vehicles could gradually change so that they switched to public transportation.

"People are very safe and comfortable, where the LRT has been connected to the BRT and Opelet," he said.

The Minister of Transportation especially appealed to young people to be able to take advantage of this mode of transportation.

"Students and students are given e-money cards with a balance of Rp. 25 thousand per month to be able to ride this mode of transportation, which is connected to the LRT, BRT and Opelet," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, said that the LRT transportation facilities that are connected to the BRT and opelet will only be given free of charge to residents or free of charge.

Thus, it is hoped that it can encourage people to be interested in using it so that the city of Palembang can be separated from the problem of traffic jams, especially during peak hours.

"Hopefully people will get used to it and actually become routine in their daily lives," he said.
