Mr. Anies Baswedan Don't Be Silent, Historian's Suggestion About Changing The Name Of JIS To MH Thamrin Stadium Must Be Answered

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta DPRD member Syarif asked DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government to respond openly to the proposal to change the name of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) to MH Thamrin Stadium by historian JJ Rizal.

"The proposal is part of the people's aspirations. The provincial government should respond and carry out discussions and studies," Syarif said when contacted, Friday, June 10.

However, Syarif said that it did not mean that Anies had to immediately grant the wish to change the name of the international-class stadium.

This is because the proposal regarding this matter was not only put forward by JJ Rizal. There were also other parties who asked Anies to change the name of JIS to use the Indonesian language.

"Regarding the naming, the best decision was taken. You have to consider many things. There are people's aspirations, there are also those who want the name JIS. There are also those who want the full Indonesian language directly, or now the names of figures. As a suggestion, it's good. The government should listen to that. ," he explained.

Previously, historian JJ Rizal asked DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to announce the change of the name of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) to MH Thamrin Stadium during the grand launching on June 25.

Rizal said he and a number of other Betawi cultural activists had sent an official letter to Anies several months ago regarding the proposal to change the name of the international-class stadium.

"Hopefully, the governor will officially announce the name MH Thamrin Stadium on June 25, 2022," Rizal said in a short message, Monday, June 6.

Rizal admitted that the proposal to change the name of JIS to MH Thamrin Stadium had been submitted directly to Anies since 2019 during the 125th MH Thamrin Festival event on the VIJ field.

This proposal was again submitted to Anies when the JIS construction reached 70 percent. At that time, Anies invited Rizal and a number of colleagues to play soccer at the JIS training field.

"So, the struggle for the monumental building to be named MH Thamrin has been carried out since the beginning of 2019," said Rizal.
