Supports Ukraine's Rebuilding, This City Donates Six Tons Of Glass For Buildings In Kyiv That Were Hit By Russian Bombs

JAKARTA - Vilnius authorities say they have donated more than six tonnes of glass to replace a window shattered by a Russian bomb on the outskirts of Kyiv, Ukraine.

Sourced from the construction and renovation project in the Lithuanian capital, the glass delivered will be used to resurface more than 300 windows in Borodyanka.

To date, an estimated 200 apartment buildings and 36 schools in and around Kyiv have been destroyed by the invading Russian forces that began on February 24.

It is known, the assistance was held after the Mayor of Borodyanka Georgiy Yerko asked for help from Lithuania. The first shipment of six tonnes of glass has already been delivered to Ukraine and more will follow soon.

Together, residents of Vilnius and state companies engaged in the business of real estate development, construction and other similar fields contributed 300 square meters of glass and 100 square meters of sheet glass in three weeks.

Vilnius has asked other Baltic and Scandinavian capitals to join the initiative, unofficially called the “Window to Europe,” with their own contributions.

"We all have to step in with large-scale assistance to help Ukrainians rebuild their cities," Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Imašius said, quoted by Euronews June 8.

Lithuana itself is one country that has succeeded in inspiring other countries, to donate to the war-torn country.

Last week, Turkish manufacturer Baykar, very impressed after Lithuanians raised $5.9 million in a few days to buy drones for Ukraine, decided to donate his drones for free.

In addition, the Lithuanian Government plans to send 20 Bayraktar TB2 armed drones to Ukraine later this month.
