PADANG - The Provincial Government of West Sumatra is still waiting for the policy of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to start rehabilitation and reconstruction after the Pasaman and West Pasaman earthquakes.

"We are still waiting for developments from BNPB to confirm whether the provincial government's authority is moderate or light," said the Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi in Padang, Tuesday, June 7.

He said the problem in handling rehabilitation and reconstruction is still incomplete data from Pasaman and West Pasaman Regencies.

"I even called the two regents directly, they said they would solve it quickly," he said, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the West Sumatra Provincial Government continues to coordinate with BNPB. Finally, communication with BNPB during activities in Bukittinggi City.

"I have directly asked the two regents to coordinate with BNPB. There have been meetings to confirm the data," he said.

Prior to the decision from BNPB, the community was still living in temporary shelters. "So volunteers were asked to help the shelters. The ruins can be used," he said.

The head of the West Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Jumaidi, emphasized that the process is currently ongoing. The BNPB team has also gone down to Pasaman and West Pasaman to collect data.

"We are still coordinating, but the decision on who will carry out the rehabilitation-reconstruction has not yet been decided. What kind of task distribution is not yet available," he said.

He stated that the solution that can be taken at this time is to focus all incoming aid funds from various donors for the construction of shelters for refugees. The coordination is in the district government which deals directly with disaster victims.

"There are quite a number of shelters built from donors' assistance. However, we do not have data on this because some donors immediately built shelters so they were not recorded," he said. It is known that several institutions took the initiative to help build shelters for earthquake victims including the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) West Sumatra and political parties.

PMI West Sumatra chairman Aristo Munandar asked for support from the community and other donors to help build the shelters.

He said that currently the West Sumatra PMI had collaborated with PT Semen Padang and Dompet Dhuafa Singgalang in an effort to build shelters.
