JAKARTA - The price of beef at Slipi Market, West Jakarta is still Rp. 150 thousand per kilogram because the supply of the commodity to traders from slaughterhouses (RPH) is still relatively high even though Idul Fitri has passed for more than a month.

"From yesterday until now it is still at Rp. 150,000 per kilogram. It has not returned to the pre-Eid price because the RPH is still high," said one beef trader at Slipi Market, Ade, quoting Antara, Tuesday, June 7.

Ade said that initially the price of meat had touched Rp. 170,000 per kilogram a few days before Idul Fitri.

After Lebaran, prices began to fall, but not too far until they finally stopped at Rp. 150,000 per kilogram.

In fact, continued Ade, the normal price is only Rp. 120,000 per kilogram.

"If the price remains at Rp. 150,000, it will be difficult for us to sell it. Meanwhile, the stock of meat that has not been sold is still a lot," he said.

Therefore, he plans to sell it at a low price in order to spend the existing meat stock.

"Yes, it will sell cheaply in the end. Let's just get the capital back, it's no longer looking for profit," he explained.

The same thing was said by another butcher, Baari. He admitted that it was difficult to sell beef for Rp. 150,000 per kilogram.

"Usually I can sell 20 to 30 kilograms per day. Now selling 10 kilograms is difficult," he said. As a result, Baari's sales turnover fell by 50 percent.

He hoped that the government would intervene to lower the price of meat from slaughterhouses.
