436 Livestock In Kuningan, West Java Infected With FMD, The Most Dairy Cows Producing Milk

KUNINGAN - The Fisheries and Livestock Service Office of Kuningan Regency, West Java noted that at least 436 head of cattle in the area were infected with an outbreak of mouth and nail disease (PMK).

The Veterinary Medical Veterinarian of the Fisheries and Livestock Service Office of Kuningan Regency, Rofiq, said that the livestock most exposed to FMD were dairy cows.

"The latest data shows that 436 cows have been infected with PMK," said Rofiq when contacted by telephone, Monday, June 6.

He said of this number, only 77 beef cattle were infected and the rest were dairy cows.

According to him, the FMD outbreak that attacked in Kuningan Regency was quite fast, especially in the dairy farming area, considering that the cages were close to each other.

For this reason, based on the Antara report, Rofiq said that he had provided assistance to breeders to continue to intensively spray disinfectants, both in cages, vehicles and others.

"Of this number, three died, 12 were forcibly slaughtered, 100 recovered and the rest are still being monitored," he said.

Rofiq said the FMD outbreak that attacked livestock in Kuningan Regency was detected for the first time in Mandapajaya Village, Cilebak District, from beef cattle.

After that, continued Rofiq, the FMD outbreak spread, until hundreds of livestock in the area, especially cattle, were infected.

According to him, the spread of the FMD virus is very fast, both through the air, intermediaries between animals, objects, humans and others.

"The first time we found it in beef cattle, which were taken from the Livestock Market in the Tasikmalaya area," he said.
