MUI Asks DPR To Include LGBT In RKUHP, Commission III: It's Done

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Desmond J Mahesa responded to the statement of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) which asked the Government and the DPR to include Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) behavior and practices as a category of crime in the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP). ).

According to Desmond, the RKUHP has been discussed so that it is impossible to make any further changes.

"The RKUHP has been completed, it is impossible to dismantle it," said Desmond at the DPR building, Thursday, June 2.

Previously, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) together with the leadership of Islamic organizations proposed that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) behavior and practices be included in the category of criminal acts in the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP).

MUI and the leadership of Islamic organizations agreed to ask the government of Joko Widodo and the DPR to include the practice of LGBT as a crime.

This attitude is part of what was agreed in the Halaqah Da'wah Cross Ormas with the title "Why We Reject LGBT" which was initiated by the MUI Da'wah Commission.

"Halaqah participants also encourage the government and the DPR to include homosexual behavior in general as a criminal act in the RKUHP," said Head of the MUI Da'wah Commission Ahmad Zubaidi in his official statement on the MUI website quoted Thursday, June 2.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that LGBT had been included in the RKUHP.

"It has been included in the RKUHP and the government already has an attitude but at that time in 2017, the government and the DPR were protested by NGOs asking that LGBT not be banned. Then it was delayed until now. If the government is clear, it has conveyed it," said Mahfud in Nusa Dua. , Badung Regency, Bali, Wednesday, 18 May.

According to Mahfud, in the RKUHP there will be criminal threats for LGBT people. However, he has not explained in detail regarding this matter.

"In the RUKHP it is criminalized, in the RKUHP it has been stated that LGBT is in certain ways and certain exposures are prohibited and there are criminal threats. That's right, but at that time it was noisy. Yes, it was noisy, so it was postponed," he added.
