PAN Supports PKS To Sue 20 Percent Presidential Threshold To MK

JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) will file a 20 percent presidential threshold lawsuit to the Constitutional Court (MK) in the near future. In fact, the material for the lawsuit is currently in its final stages.

In response to this, the National Mandate Party (PAN) considered that the lawsuit was appropriate given the position of PKS as a political party with an interest in the general election. "That's the way it should be. When a law is considered unfair or contrary to the constitution, the way is the Constitutional Court. We appreciate it if, for example, there is a political party that sues it," said Deputy Chairperson of PAN, Yandri Susanto at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 31.

The chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR revealed that from the beginning PAN also did not agree with the 20 percent presidential threshold (PT). Even since the Political Party Law was discussed in the DPR, Yandri said, PAN had rejected the threshold for presidential and parliamentary candidacy. That was the final debate that was brought to the plenary. So, from the start, PAN didn't want a presidential threshold," said Yandri. Because he said, PAN is still subject to the Political Party Law, the Election Law, which is in effect as long as the Law has not been successfully sued to the Constitutional Court.

"Until now, there is no (plan to sue). But that there is an attempt by a political party or other party to sue, yes, we support it," he said. Previously, PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu invited other political parties to file a lawsuit for the threshold for nominations for president and vice president to the Constitutional Court. "Thank God, in this era of collaboration, today we can conduct a judicial review of the 20 percent presidential threshold," said Ahmad Syaikhu in his remarks at the 20th PKS Milad event at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, May 29.
