Officially Applying The Name Rule On A Minimum Of Two Words On KTP, Tangerang Disduk: Only For New Residents

JAKARTA - The recording of two-word names on identity cards (KTP) has come into effect in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. However, this rule only applies to new residents or residents who have not been officially registered.

The Head of the Population Identity Section at the Tangerang Regency Population and Civil Registry Office, Nuryadi Didi, said the application of the rule was in accordance with a new regulation from the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the recording of population documents. He explained that the rules contained in Permendagri number 73 of 2022 concerning recording names on population documents with a minimum of two syllables were promulgated only valid for new population data.

However, he continued, if there were people who before the issuance of the regulation, but the number of names in only one syllable is still allowed and there is no need to change the name. "Moreover, if the resident already has a name on a diploma or degree. Then, it will make it difficult to make changes. So we do not apply new rules," he said, quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 29.

He said, in the implementation of the new rules from the Ministry of Home Affairs, technically there were no problems or difficulties. However, his party has to re-socialize about the application of syllable names in the application of ID cards.

"So we are back again to socialize related to this new rule. We also provide solutions or directions to residents who have one syllable name so that they can be added again," he said.

He revealed that so far his party had implemented and followed the rules from the central government, both technically and socially.

"We have also tried outreach, to residents who attend the service. We will explain according to applicable regulations," he said.

Previously, the Director General of Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zudan A Fakrulloh, explained that the reason for the minimum of two words was to think about and prioritize the future of children earlier.

For example, when a child wants to go to school or plans to go abroad to make a passport, of course, it must be at least two syllables, the name must be in harmony with other public services to make it easier for children in every public service.
