MANADO - Coordinator for Observation and Information of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the Bitung Maritime Meteorology Station, Ricky Daniel Aror, said that four areas in North Sulawesi have the potential to be affected by high waves and coastal flooding (rob).

"The four areas are the north and east coasts of the Sangihe Islands, Talaud, Sitaro," Ricky said in Manado, quoted by Antara, Friday, May 27.

The reason, he explained, coincided with the new moon phase on May 28-30 and this could trigger a more significant increase in the maximum high tide level.

Therefore, he hopes that residents of the north and east coasts or marine transportation managers will be aware of the potential for high waves.

"The maximum wave height can reach four meters, we have to be careful," he said.

According to Ricky, the impact that can be caused is the disruption of activities in the capture fisheries sector, transportation, activities of salt farmers and inland fisheries as well as loading and unloading of ships at the port.

BMKG hopes that the public is alert and ready to anticipate the impact of the maximum tide of sea water and continues to update the latest data from the Maritime BMKG.

"This high wave moves from west to east, in the waters of Buol Toli-Toli it is estimated that the peak of the wave height is at 23.00 WITA tonight," he said.

Meanwhile, the waters in Sitaro and Sangihe are expected to peak on Saturday (28/5) at noon at 14.00 WITA, and in the waters of Talaud after that.
