PVMBG Still Evaluating The Degradation Of The Status Of North Sulawesi's Space Mountain

MANADO - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is still evaluating the decline in the status of Mount Ruang in the Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi.

"We are still monitoring developments, we will see later if next month (June) the status will be lowered from alert level two to level one," said the Eastern Region Volcano Mitigation Sub-Coordinator Devy Kamil Syahbana, quoted by Antara, Friday, May 27.

According to him, the volcanic activity in the Siau-Tagulandang-Biaro (Sitaro) Islands Regency continues to decline, but fluctuations continue to be observed.

There are several parameters that will be seen before the status is actually lowered, including volcanic seismicity, visuals to satellite data.

"We hope that residents will continue to comply with the recommendations we have given," he said.

Several recommendations were issued, namely that the public and visitors/tourists are expected not to carry out activities/enter the Gunung Ruang area at a radius of 1.5 kilometers from the crater/peak and 2.5 kilometers in the sectoral sector of the east, southeast, south, and southwest.

The community is also expected to always prepare a mask covering the nose and mouth to anticipate the potential danger of volcanic ash if an eruption occurs.

Communities around the mountain are expected to be calm, not provoked by issues regarding the eruption of Mount Ruang and always follow the directions of the local government.
