About Searching For Harun Masiku, Former KPK Leader: With Technology It's Not Difficult To Find People

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Saut Situmorang assessed that fugitive Harun Masiku, a suspect in the DPR RI bribery case, should be easy to find with the help of technology. After all, this is not the first time the anti-corruption commission has come face-to-face with an escaped suspect.

"With technology, it's not difficult to find that person. What is more difficult than him can be found," Saut told reporters quoted on Friday, May 27.

Saut said that Harun Masiku's arrest should be done without taking long. Moreover, a number of former KPK investigators such as Harun Al Rasyid and Novel Baswedan repeatedly offered to help arrest the former legislative candidates in the 2019 election.

"The Harun (Harun Al Rasyid, a former KPK investigator) just said, 'love me, I'll take it in the afternoon'. He dares to say that," he said.

"That means (he, ed) already knows where, where he (Harun Masiku, ed) resides. At least, it's not as difficult as imagined now," he added.

Even so, he assessed that his former institution had no intention of looking for Harun Masiku. Saut even considered that Firli Bahuri et al only considered Harun to be an ordinary corruptor, so there was no maximum effort to conduct a search.

"It's just that we have no intention if I say, no intention," he said.

Furthermore, Saut assessed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) could actually summon Firli Bahuri et al to ask for an explanation of the extent of their search for fugitives, including Harun Masiku. Moreover, this process is in the public spotlight.

Not only that, the current KPK, after the enactment of Law Number 19 of 2019 is also under the president. So, Saut said, if Harun is not found, then President Jokowi can question the performance of Firli Bahuri et al.

"Say that the KPK is now under the president, the president just needs to call him, 'uh, Firli, how come you haven't met yet? What are you doing,'

As previously reported, the KPK has named Harun Masiku as a suspect in giving bribes to KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan since January 2020. This bribery was carried out so that he could easily sit as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives through interim shifts or PAW.

Harun's escape began when the KPK carried out an arrest operation regarding this case on January 8, 2020. In the silent operation, the KPK named four suspects, namely Harun Masiku, Wahyu Setiawan, former Bawaslu Member Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and Saeful Bahri.

However, Harun, who was not caught by OTT, is unknown. He reportedly fled to Singapore and is said to have returned to Indonesia.

Apart from Harun, there are actually three other fugitives who have not been caught. They are Surya Darmadi who has been on the run since 2019; Izil Azhar has been fugitive since 2018; and Kirana Kotama who has been fugitive since 2017.
