JAKARTA - Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas invites the public to strengthen the harmony of the people during the celebration of the Ascension of Jesus Christ.
"Congratulations to Christians who are celebrating the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ in 2022. Let's continue to strengthen the harmony of the people," said Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, May 26.
The Ascension of Jesus Christ is a series of Easter, one of the major celebrations for Christians in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter brings a message of grace, love, and God's power to keep mankind from the shadow of sin and death. Easter is believed by Christians as a form of forgiveness of mankind from God.
As the government, the Minister of Religion hopes that the momentum of this celebration can become a forum to strengthen inter-religious harmony.
"I hope that Christians can continue to play a role and contribute to efforts to maintain inter-religious harmony and build national unity and integrity," he said.
Indonesia is a pluralistic country with ethnic, cultural and religious diversity. This plurality can be a great and real force to build a nation if it is cared for together in the frame of harmony and brotherhood. However, on the other hand, if it is not maintained properly, it can potentially become the seed of division.
"Therefore, religious moderation is very necessary in the social life of the community so that the integrity of the nation can be maintained. Let us all take part in realizing peace for the nation and state. Peace be upon you," said the Minister of Religion.
