JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said the DKI Provincial Government would increase the participation of BPJS Employment services for informal sector workers.

This, said Riza, is a mandate from Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2021 concerning Optimizing the Implementation of the Employment Social Security Program.

Riza said that his party will cover BPJS Employment participation for non-formal workers who are recipients of contribution assistance from the DKI Provincial Government, such as Koran teachers and church administrators.

"Teachers of the Koran, church administrators, mosque marbots receive subsidies from the APBD. Their contributions are borne by the DKI Jakarta provincial government, (the BPJS Employment membership) is what we are currently formulating going forward," Riza said in a statement, Thursday, May 26.

Riza also encouraged other informal sector workers to register as BPJS Employment participants. Given, they are vulnerable workers who need social security to live decently.

"Vulnerable workers in question are informal sector workers whose working conditions are far from standard values, have high risks, and have very minimal income. Besides that, they are also vulnerable to economic turmoil and welfare levels below the average such as farmers, fishermen, street vendors , and other non-wage workers," he explained.

On the same occasion, Riza also requested that platinum companies ensure that all their work partners are protected from the BPJS Employment program.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (also) continues to encourage all companies to include their workers in BPJS TK. Moreover, various BPJS TK programs are considered capable of supporting the government in poverty alleviation efforts," he said.
