KPK Will Coordinate With Indonesian Air Force After Detaining Suspect Of Alleged AW-101 Helicopter Corruption From Private Parties

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will coordinate with the TNI regarding the handling of the alleged corruption case in the procurement of the AW-101 helicopter.

The coordination was carried out because the anti-corruption commission found sufficient evidence to detain the director of PT Diratama Jaya Mandiri Irfan Kurnia Saleh or John Irfan Kenway, who are private parties. In addition, this step can be carried out by the KPK in accordance with Law No. 19 of 2019.

Adhering to the article, Firli continued, his institution can supervise the handling of cases investigated by the TNI Military Police Center (Puspom).

Moreover, in this case, there are five suspects with military backgrounds. However, in its development, the TNI Puspom stopped the investigation.

"In Article 8 letter A it is even clearer. In Article 8 letter A of Law Number 19 of 2019 it is stated that the KPK is in charge of coordinating investigations, investigations and prosecutions of corruption crimes. This means, of course we must carry out the mandate of the Law," said Firli .

As previously reported, the KPK detained Irfan in a corruption case regarding the procurement of the AW-101 helicopter. He is suspected of making the state lose up to IDR 224 billion from the value of the procurement contract which reached IDR 738.9 billion.

For his actions, Irfan was later suspected of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes Jo Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code.
