GUNUNG KIDUL - Fishermen in Gunung Kidul Regency were asked not to go to sea for a while considering the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a warning of potential sea waves in the southern coast of Java.

The request came from the Search and Rescue Team of the Community Protection Unit Region II Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).

"Warning information from the BMKG of an increase in waves will occur in the next few days. We ask for the fishermen's boats to be temporarily secured," said SAR Coordinator of Gunung Kidul Satlinmas Region II Marjono in Gunung Kidul, Tuesday 24 May.

With this appeal, fishermen are proactive in complying with it. They chose to take the boat that used to lean on the Baron Beach pier to a place that was considered much safer.

"Based on the graph of the predicted wave increase that has been obtained from BMKG, the peak of the wave increase will occur on Tuesday night. The graph shows an increase of 4 to 6 meters," he said.

Not only urging fishermen, SAR also warns tourists who come to visit the coastal area. Even though the Lebaran holiday is over, there are still many tourists who visit beach tourism destinations in Gunung Kidul.

“Our members are always on standby to carry out security duties. We optimize SAR members in their duties," he said.

Chief Fisherman Baron Sumardi confirmed today, fishermen chose not to go to sea. Apart from the increasing wave height, today is also Kliwon Tuesday.

He said fishermen chose not to go to sea on Tuesday or Friday Kliwon according to the Javanese calendar. This custom is a tradition of the local community. "But if the wave conditions allow, fishermen will go to sea outside that day," he said.
