BATAM - Perpetrators of skimming (theft of data using special tools) Bank Riau Kepri withdraw customer money by withdrawing cash at several automated teller machines (ATMs) using duplicate cards.

The Director of the Special Criminal Investigation (Dirkrimsus) of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Teguh Widodo, said the three perpetrators had the initials VT from Bulgaria, JP (WNI), and CC (WNI). They withdraw money from customer data using dozens of ATM cards that they have duplicated (copies).

"They disbursed the customer's money from several ATMs, both joint ATMs and Bank Riau Kepri ATMs, cash withdrawal transactions using duplicated cards," said Teguh during a press conference in Batam, Riau Islands reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

After they managed to take the money, then use it for personal gain.

According to Teguh, the money that was successfully withdrawn by the perpetrators was used for fun.

Currently, there is one more person with the initials A who has not been caught and is on the wanted list (DPO).

The perpetrator with the initials A is the person responsible for copying data from customers who have just made transactions at Bank Riau Kepri ATM machines that have been installed with electronic chip traps.

"This A is the perpetrator who copied data from ATM cards belonging to Bank Riau Kepri customers, while the three perpetrators who have been arrested only act as installers of electronic chip traps at ATM machines that have been targeted," he said.

After successfully scanning the victim's ATM card, he continued, the data was immediately processed by perpetrator A with a special application.

The customer data up to the ATM card PIN number that has been obtained by actor A, is then sent back to the three perpetrators who have been waiting in Batam.

The data that has been sent by actor A is then copied back to a special electronic card using an electronic data capture (EDC) device.

Copying the data, he said, made it easier for the three other actors to make withdrawals on a number of accounts belonging to Bank Riau Kepri customers.

In total there are 50 ATM card data for Bank Riau Kepri customers. When added up, the total cash amount is up to IDR 800 million.
