JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD spoke about the appointment of the Head of the Central Sulawesi Intelligence Agency (BIN), Brigadier General Andi Chandra As'aduddin as the Acting Regent of West Seram.

Andi Chandra replaces the Regent of West Seram Yus Akerina whose term of office ended on Sunday, May 22 yesterday. "It's true, Brigadier General Chandra has been appointed as the Acting Regent," said Mahfud in a written statement to reporters, Tuesday, May 24.

Mahfud also confirmed that Andi Chandra is an active TNI soldier. However, Andi is currently undergoing an assignment outside his original institution so that he does not violate the rules or decisions of the Constitutional Court (MK).

"According to the decision of the Constitutional Court, TNI/POLRI members who are not functionally active in their parent institution but are assigned to other institutions or bureaucracies can become Acting Regional Heads," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

"For example, those who work at BNPT, Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Kemenkum-HAM, BIN, Setmil, Lemhanas, and others. The rules and decisions of the Constitutional Court regulate that. Brigadier General Chandra has been employed at BIN for a long time," he added.

Not only that, Mahfud also said that members of the TNI/Polri who had changed their status to civil servants and retired from their positions could also become acting regional heads. One of the people he mentioned was Komjen (Ret.) Paulus Waterpauw who is now the Acting Governor of West Papua.

"In addition to being employed outside the parent institution, TNI/POLRI members who change their status to civil servants and retire are also allowed. For example, Paulus Waterpauw, a 3-star POLRI Pati who is now the Acting Governor of West Papua. Mr. Waterpauw is now working at the National Border Management Agency (Border Management Agency).
