The PAN Faction DPR Regretted The Police's Treatment Of US Activists Wearing Orange Vests And Handcuffed

JAKARTA - Member of the PAN faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives Guspardi Gaus regretted the treatment of the National Police Headquarters against the activists of the Action to Save Indonesia (US) Coalition who were shown to the public wearing orange vests and their hands tied or handcuffed.

"They are not criminals, not corruptors, nor political prisoners, let alone terrorists. The police in this regard are overreacting," said Guspardi as quoted by Antara , Saturday.

He considered that the Police, as the protector of society, should be wiser in taking action in upholding justice and truth.

According to him, if such a method treats activists or "those with differing opinions" as if they were criminals and is displayed in public, it would be beyond appropriate.

"The police should be more prudent and humane. The act of showing the suspects wearing orange prison clothes and their hands tied or handcuffed will actually worsen the image of the police corps in the public eye," he said.

According to him, although the US members have been named as suspects in the case of alleged violations of Law number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law), they should not be treated like serious criminals.

He considered that the Police's treatment of US activists in this case was very inappropriate and " offside ".

For this reason, he hopes that the Police can make the incident an autocritic to the Police corps to act more humanely and not to make the image of Polri, which is loved as the protector and protector of the community, to fall further in the eyes of the public.

Previously, Bareskrim Polri released the arrest of 8 high-ranking officials and members of the Coalition for the Action to Save Indonesia (US) on Thursday, October 15 afternoon. All suspects in this case were also presented before the media crew.

All of the suspects were seen wearing orange detention clothes that read "Bareskrim Polri prisoners", and the hands of all the suspects were handcuffed.

The eight suspects released by the police, three of whom are members of the WE executive committee, Syahganda Nainggolan, Jumhur Hidayat and Anton Permana.
