Former KONI Padang Officials Are Busy Involved In Corruption, After Deputy-Treasurer Now Turns To Detained Chairperson

PADANG - The Padang District Attorney, West Sumatra, detained the former chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Padang for the 2018-2020 period with the initials AS on suspicion of corruption.

The US's detention was carried out by the Padang Kejari after handing over the suspect and evidence from the investigator to the public prosecutor (JPU) or stage II of the case.

"Today, phase II was carried out for suspect AS, after which he was immediately detained at the Anak Air Padang State Detention Center," said the Head of the Intelligence Section of the Padang Attorney's Office, Roni Saputra, accompanied by Head of Special Unit for Special Investigations Therry Gutama, in Padang, Antara, Monday, May 23. .

The second phase of the process can be carried out after the suspect AS is cooperative and fulfills the prosecutor's summons, while on the first summons he is absent due to illness.

"The suspect is cooperative by fulfilling the summons we sent last Wednesday, the person concerned was examined before being detained," explained Head of the Special Crimes Section Therry Gutama.

The US suspect underwent an examination at the Padang Kejari Office accompanied by his legal adviser, then was led out wearing a prosecutor's detention vest.

As is known, the US is one of three suspects named by the Padang Kejari in the case of alleged misappropriation of the Padang Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Grant Fund which has cost the state up to IDR 3.1 billion. Two other suspects, namely the Deputy Chairperson of KONI with the initials DV and Deputy Treasurer 1 of KONI NZ, were first detained by the Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday, May 18.

At that time, the US suspect had not been arrested because he did not fulfill the summons of the Padang Attorney General on the grounds of illness. Therry Gutama explained that after carrying out the second phase of the process against the three suspects, the Public Prosecution Team would immediately draw up an indictment.

For this case, the Padang Attorney General's Office appointed ten prosecutors as the Public Prosecutor's Team led by Budi Sastera who served as the Head of the Padang Attorney General's Criminal Section.

The case of alleged misappropriation of the Padang KONI Grant Fund for the 2018 to 2020 Fiscal Year, based on the results of the audit, revealed that the case had cost the state up to IDR 3.1 billion.

The suspects were charged with Articles 2, 3, and 9, Juncto 15, Jo 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, Juncto (Jo) of Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

Therry explained that throughout the investigation process, the Padang Kejari had examined 60 witnesses from the management of the Padang KONI, the management of the sport (sports) branch, as well as the ASN of the Youth and Sports Service. The Padang Attorney General's Office has confiscated more than 200 documents as evidence.
