Begal Troubles Residents Of Indragiri Hilir Riau Arrested By Police

RIAU - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indragiri Hilir Resort Police of Riau Province arrested MA (22), a robber who was troubling local residents on Jalan Tanjung Harapan, Tembilahan City.

Head of the Indragiri Hilir Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Amru Abdullah, revealed that the suspect MA was arrested at his home on Jalan Soebrantas on Monday, May 16, after his party conducted an investigation after receiving a report from a victim of burglary.

Based on Antara's report, the incident was discovered after reports of a robbery from RE victim (18) that occurred on Saturday, May 14, at around 23.00 WIB.

The robbery incident began when the victim and a friend were walking on a motorcycle on Jalan Tanjung Harapan, Tembilahan.

Furthermore, at 23.00 WIB, the victim was stopped by the perpetrator carrying a short machete.

"Precisely on Jalan Tanjung Harapan Ujung, suddenly an unknown man came riding a motorcycle who immediately stopped the victim and took the victim's motorbike key. The perpetrator also took out a short machete and then hit the victim using the handle of the machete," he explained.

The perpetrator, he said, also seized two cellphones belonging to the victim and his friend. "The perpetrator then fled with the key to the victim's motorbike, so that the victim could not chase the perpetrator," he explained.

From the results of the interrogation, the perpetrator admitted that he committed the crime of theft alone. Then the perpetrator was taken to the Indragiri Hilir Police Station for further investigation.

"The perpetrator is subject to Article 365 of the Criminal Code and is threatened with nine years in prison," he said.

The Indragiri Hilir police station appealed to the public to always be careful when driving on deserted roads.

"Avoid just walking to a quiet place especially in the middle of the night, the perpetrators may not have the intention but there is an opportunity to commit a crime," he said.
