RI 9th Vice President Hamzah Haz Sick, Being Treated At RSPAD Gatot Soebroto

JAKARTA - The 9th Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia Hamzah Haz is suffering from illness due to organ dysfunction. Hamza Haz is currently under medical treatment.

Secretary General of the United Development Party, Arsul Sani, said that Hamzah Haz is now being treated at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital in Jakarta.

"Please pray for a speedy recovery. He has impaired organ function due to age," said Arsul when quoted by Antara , Thursday, October 15 evening.

According to Arsul, Hamzah Haz, who was a companion to the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, has no difficulty eating.

"Yes, so (eating is still smooth)," said Arsul.

However, the IV line appears to be attached to the former State Minister for Investment / Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in the cabinet of the third President of the Republic of Indonesia, Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie.

Hamzah was born in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, February 15, 1940, or 80 years ago. He served as Vice President in the 2001-2004 period.

Before serving as Vice President, Hamzah Haz was the Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare and Poverty Alleviation in the Cabinet of the Fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).

On Thursday, 26 July 2001, Hamzah was elected as the 9th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, after winning the vice presidential election battle in parliament ahead of Golkar Party Chairman Akbar Tanjung and a number of other names.

Hamzah Haz is also known as the chairman of the fourth DPP United Development Party (PPP) which led from 1998 to 2007. He was replaced by Suryadharma Ali in February 2007.

During the leadership of Hamzah Haz, PPP reached a golden age with the success of winning the third most seats in the DPR in the 1999 and 2004 elections after Golkar and PDI Perjuangan.
