JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin wants the number of Indonesian export products to China to be equal to the number of imported products from the bamboo curtain country to the country.

Vice President Ma'ruf conveyed his wish directly to the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Indonesia Lu Kang at the vice president's official residence in Jakarta.

"In the meeting, the Vice President asked how the trade agreements between Indonesia and China are still in deficit; in the sense that there are still many Chinese goods entering Indonesia compared to Indonesian goods entering China. So that it can be balanced in the future," Spokesman for the vice president Masduki Baidlowi said in a statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 18.

Masduki said that during the meeting, Vice President Ma'ruf and Ambassador Lu Kang agreed to strengthen the friendship between Indonesia and China which had been well established so far. Both hope that many Indonesians will come to China, and vice versa.

Ma'ruf Amin and Lu Kang also agreed and strengthened various matters related to investment and trade.

Regarding education, at the meeting, Ma'ruf Amin specifically asked China to make it easier for Indonesian students to enter China in order to study, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

"There are technical difficulties because there is still a pandemic period; that's how to make concessions and it is agreed that the Chinese government will make it easier for Indonesian students to come to continue studying; because many have stopped studying due to the pandemic. That's what the Vice President asked; and all of them promised okay," he said.

Masduki said the meeting was warm. Vice President Ma'ruf and Ambassador Lu Kang hope that what was discussed bilaterally can be realized well.
