Gatot Nurmantyo's Efforts To Meet The National Police Chief Were In Vain, Leaving A Message For The Police To Be Professional

JAKARTA - A number of figures from the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (WE) failed to meet the National Police Chief, General Idham Azis. WE planned to submit a petition, but failed.

OUR Presidum, General (ret) Gatot Nurmantyo, said the plan to meet with the Police leadership was canceled because the National Police Chief was not in his office.

"We got information that during COVID-19, he was rarely in the office," Gatot told reporters, Thursday, October 15.

Gatot said, the purpose of meeting with the Chief of Police was to convey a petition about the arrest of several US officials. However, because they could not meet the Police Chief, they decided to leave Bareskrim Polri.

"Expressing opinions in this petition is related to our detained brothers," he said.

Even though he could not meet the National Police Chief, Gatot hopes that the Police can be a good role model by handling all cases professionally. According to Gatot, professional handling is important so that there is no bad image of the Police in the minds of the public.

"We want the Indonesian National Police to really guard the law and can provide exemplary examples in law enforcement," he said.

Gatot came to Bareskrim regarding the arrest of eight people who are members of the Coalition to Save Indonesia (WE). They were secured in Jakarta and Medan, North Sumatra.

The National Police previously named three members of the Executive Committee for the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (US) as suspects for the alleged spread of hate speech and incitement.

The three of them are Syahganda Nainggolan, Anton Permana and Jumhur Hidayat. The three of them were arrested at different times and locations.

"Already detained. His name has been detained, he is already a suspect," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, to reporters, Wednesday, October 14.

Apart from them, the police also secured US members in Medan, North Sumatra. The four of them are Juliana, Devi, Wahyu Rasari Putri, and Khairi Amri who are the Chairperson of WE Medan.
